hike on mountain views from Cabo de Palos (E)
(Monday, 01/10/2011)

Weather: very nice / Temp: 18 degrees / Wind: 1 to 2 HE

A dark blue, cloudless sky arched over the "Mar Menor". After climbing the mountain water last week, let us now view the hill of Cabo de Palos, "also make" house mountain ". A name the mountain has apparently not. We ride with Rolf, who has often been on this wonderful vantage point to the foot of the mountain where we close our bikes behind the large WWTP park.

From here we can overlook our defined objective.

Again, good shoes and long pants are advisable because of the narrow path is lined with some pretty steep and thorny bushes.

our eyes wander during the rise again and again over the "Mar Menor" which is surveyable by the clear view in full size with all the surrounding villages and towns.

Our campsite lies at our feet.

The Peninsula "La Manga" separates the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean.

In the south we see the characteristic shape of the mountain water. Once

on the saddle of the ridge, spreading among us "Cabo de Palos" from the bay of Cala Reona.

Along the way we discover rosemary, thyme, and the "golden moss from La Manga.

The entire climb takes only three quarters of an hour and is rewarded by a dream beautiful vistas.

Once more we have chosen a perfect day for our little hike.

windsurfing on Mar Menor (E) (Tuesday, 01/11/2011)
Weather: cloudy and very nice / Temp: 21 degrees / Wind: 1 to 3 HE

Today we are seeing so far warmest day this year. Unfortunately, until the late afternoon wind comes from the guru and Windfinder announced wind. Karin makes the "guinea pig". The wind just enough for two shots in the slide.

Meanwhile we enjoy our coffee on the terrace of the beach restaurants and Karin look at their sliding tests.

Now William will also try his luck.

He is with his already successful 10 m2 sail a lot :-)

The air is very clear again today, so that the view far into the mountains of "Murcia" extends.

for a beautiful day is a beautiful sunset :-)

role designs flight to Los Alcazares (E) (Wednesday, 12/01/2011)
Weather: very nice / temp: 21 degrees / Wind: 1 to 2 HE

We use the beautiful day for a flight roller designs for 'Los Alcazares. The Mar Menor is also now dark blue with us.

We go as far as possible along the coast road. The vegetables and the lemons grow fast approaching here in the prevailing mild temperatures.

also keep the artichokes as with wacker.

First, one would assume that the palm-lined avenues of the beach promenade of "Los Alcazares" under the currently prevailing drought . Suffer This is unfortunately not the case. The reason is much more serious. For the brown palm leaves hanging is the infamous "Red Palmrüssler" responsible.

The Red Palmrüssler "is a beetle from the south-east Asia, who lives at the expense of the palms. This beetle has increased dramatically in the last five years, also spread on the Costa Calida. The "Red Palmrüssler" made it in about three months, a palm that is apparently healthy to eat broken. He lives in the approach leaves below the crown and the root can exist for several generations. The larva passes through the crown directly to the palm tree one. The damage caused by the larvae is often diagnosed too late because they are not visible from the outside first. If they are visible, as here, the palm can not be saved.

There are now a combined treatment (nebulization of the tree with chemicals and other additives, low-pressure syringes in the trunk, removal of the affected parts of the tree crown, disposal of dead palm trees). This treatment is very complicated and expensive. As long as we admire the millions of palm trees in the southern countries can still to be seen, a really sad story, again by the man and his inattention causes. In

currently only open restaurant in the area "Terra Mare" We enjoy lunch at the view on the Mar Menor.

thunder now and then a jet from the nearby military airport of San Javier "over our heads.

After a short visit to the camp "Mar Menor", just behind the airport, we connect to the back. Amazingly, here is blowing a light wind surfing, which is just enough to immerse urns.

When we arrive at the campsite, is the "Mar Menor" in turn mirror before us.

walk on the Espiritu Santo (E) (Thursday, 1/13/2011)
Weather: very nice / Temp: 20 degrees / Wind: 1 to 3 HE

Another cloudless day awaits us. We join a small group of hikers at the campground. Our goal is to climb up the "Espiritu Santo". With about 400 meters above sea level this is the highest point around the "Mar Menor". With the car we drive up to the pass between "Llano del Beal, where we begin our day hike.

over the Mediterranean Sea this morning fog has formed, which between the hills is visible.

First, we follow a Minenerschliessungsweg up to the saddle between the mountain range to the "La Union" and "Espiritu Santo" extends.

To the north lies the "Mar Menor" with the "Isla del Barón" is already far below us.

In the south we see the hills of "Cartagena" with the ugly, smelly industrial area "Escombreras.

Once on the saddle, we turn left into a steep Forest path. Soon, we survey the wind farm of "La Union" across the mountain chain.

we meet halfway up along the way to orchids.

But other interesting plants we can discover.

We work our way gradually before the summit.

yet it is the drop off in the last section to be overcome.

Finally after one and a half hours we reached our destination.

The panoramic view from the "Espiritu Santo" is stunning. Below us lies the vast "golf course of La Manga.

In the distance we can also see our campsite "La Manga" in the background.

We enjoy the great panoramic view of the "Mar Menor".

After we have seen enough of us, we look for a suitable place for our picnic.

An eagle draws his circles, and increases in the thermal updrafts surprisingly quickly from the valley up over our heads.

Also on this breezy height we find the cocoons of the procession moth capture.

constantly roam our Striking views of the opposite mountain water.

The descent is fast, so we already arrive at three clock back to the campsite.
